Agritourism

This area offers various opportunities to try out agritourism and be a real farmer for the day, carrying out authentic farm work. This is the perfect chance to share a truly unique experience with your family.

The Colonial Route is a fine example of rural tourism located approximately 20 km (12.5 miles) from the city of Puerto Varas, in the area of Las Colonias. By combining their different interests, four local families created the route to provide an agritourism experience that allows the visitor to take part in a number of countryside activities in the natural beauty of the local flora and fauna. For example, you can learn about the production of milk and the Chilean alcoholic cider called 'chicha', while listening to the stories and traditions of the German settlers.

The Salmon Route

What makes Chilean salmon so good?  Come and learn how the salmon is raised at the end of the world and get the chance to taste it as well…it's incredible!

The Salmon Route Tour covers the first 47 kilometers (29 miles) of the Austral Highway from Puerto Montt to La Arena Cove. There are natural wonders such as 30,000 year old fossilized trees and lava crusts, created by the 1892 eruption of Volcano Calbuco, as well as agricultural attractions like mussel farming and seaweed collection centers.  The tour focuses on the salmon farming culture and includes a visit to the sea farming center, located 25 minutes by boat from La Arena Cove.  Here, the salmon net cages offer an up close inspection of the distinct processes behind one of Chile's most important industry.

German Colonists

Discover how the German settlers made the south of Chile their home, almost 150 years ago. We offer a special tour through which you can feast your eyes on the spectacle of old colonial homes, loaded with history.

This wonderful trip to the past begins in the city of Puerto Varas, popularly known as the City of Roses, where there is an old catholic church which recalls memories and images of the Black Forest in Germany.

Likewise, as you tour the Lake District surrounding Lake Llanquihue, you will see many antique houses and artifacts that date back to the time when German settlers came to colonize this region.

German Sausage Tour

One of the best trades passed down by German tradition is the art of making different types of sausages and cold cuts. If you want to learn more about this southern custom, then the German Sausage Tour is a perfect way to do so in Puerto Varas.
It will take you on a journey through tastes and aromas, with memories of colonial times, as you sample a vast variety of German and local preparations.

Climb the Osorno Volcano

For lovers of adventure, climbing the Osorno Voclano is the perfect choice. After five hours of hiking you'll reach the peak. Here you'll have an utterly spectacular view of the Andean mountains and volcanoes, the lakes that give the Lakes District its name, as well as a never-ending landscape of infinite shades of green.

The trip leaves early from Hotel Cabañas del Lago. After arriving at the foot of the volcano, the first part of the climb is over volcanic rock and lasts about two hours. You then advance over ice and snow on an incline of around 50 degrees. Finally, after about five hours of hard work, you'll reach Osorno's wide peak.

The decent, on snowy slopes or rocky paths, lasts about four hours.

Fishing

Everyone agrees that beautiful rivers and lakes are the perfect place to fish, whether you like fly fishing or trolling. Fishing near Puerto Varas promises to be a unique experience, whether you choose to go for one or many days. You can find many fishing lodges nearby. Even if you're not an expert, you can tour the most spectacular landscapes of the South of Chile while fishing for trout, salmon and other fish native to the region.

Rafting

Amazing emerald green waters become the perfect setting to go rafting in class III and IV whitewaters. This experience will become more than just an adventure once you are navigating 16 km down the Petrohué River. If you go rafting, you will be able to see breath-taking, undisturbed nature surrounding the river, forests, mountains, volcanoes, as well as different birds such as the Common Kingfisher, the Torrent Duck, and the Cormorant. After this experience, you will probably want to go rafting many times again.

Trekking

Trekking is the best way to reconnect with nature and all its aromas, colors and textures. Walking is a complete exercise that's easy for everyone. It's generally a group sport that you can do for a full day or up to one week with camping. We like to find landscapes with lots of vegetation and animals, deep in the forest or high in the mountains.

You can take excursions to the Osorno Voclano, to the Alerce Andino National Park that borders Lake Todos Los Santos, or to many other places that are true wonders of nature.

Canopy

Fly like a bird or become the king of the jungle as you swing through tree tops. The sensation of being surrounded by trees, hanging from a thick steel wire rope with nothing but air separating you from the ground, is incomparable. Canopy will allow you to see the most beautiful landscapes of the south of Chile from a privileged viewpoint, as you go down at high speed. Try it out and feel the incredible excitement of hanging from a rope in the middle of nowhere. It's available for all ages.

We have Canopy tours on Phillipi Hill, over the slopes of Osorno Volcano and in La Vara.
